Beauty & spa business praised for supporting young people into work

A business has proved it has the perfect mix of beauty and brains after being presented with an award for helping young people on to the job ladder.

PURE Spa & Beauty has been named Skills Development Scotland's Youth Employer of the Month.

The company, which has sites in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, has been recognised for not only taking on four Modern Apprentices (MAs) and several graduates, but for working with partners to support youth employment in Scotland.

PURE Spa also helps support women who want to return to work by offering them placements within the business.

PURE Spa & Beauty Group HR Manager, Louise Reekie, said: "At PURE Spa & Beauty we believe heavily in supporting aspiring professionals whether they are therapists, receptionists or head office staff.

"We have been really pleased to see our Modern Apprentices and graduates progress within the company. They bring fresh ideas and inject their own personality into the teams. We value the new generation and strongly believe they are our future."

For more than a decade, PURE Spa has built up close relationships with colleges and companies running initiatives to support youth employment in Scotland.

Since 2012, the company has run a summer placement programme, offering beauty/spa students a three month placement to gain work experience and an insight into how the industry operates.

Louise explained: "As a company we are very passionate about giving opportunities to young people who are looking to gain experience to further their careers. Many of the students who joined us on placement are now permanent employees within the company."

Nicola Inkster is currently doing an MA in Business Administration with PURE Spa in Edinburgh.

She said: "I've worked at PURE Spa for two months and the experience has been invaluable. I've never met such a wonderful group of people that go out of their way to be as supportive and helpful as possible.

"I am very grateful to them for giving me this opportunity and the pick-me-up I needed in my life. I couldn't think of a more deserving company to be named Youth Employer of the Month."

SDS Relationship Account Executive, Vicki MacLean, added: "PURE Spa is an excellent example of a company that is going above and beyond to support young people into work.

"They are not only employing MAs and several graduates within the business, but they are also committed to providing meaningful opportunities to young people through their work with colleges and other companies."

Chairman of SDS, John McClelland CBE, said: "I would like to congratulate everyone at PURE Spa & Beauty for their impressive commitment to helping young people into employment.

"They are setting the standard for other businesses in the industry and demonstrate that there are many ways to support young people in your local area."
