Internet Safety Courses

computer diploma

Research by e-skills, the Sector Skills Council for IT, shows that 69% of employees now use IT in their working lives, and 36% in a 2006 survey considered using the internet essential for their jobs.

There are now standalone qualifications which can help learners understand the internet and use it safely.  Many people are concerned about viruses and online scams, but don't know how to protect themselves and their computer.

The SQA offer 2 accredited National Units which are relevant to internet safety:

Internet Safety Intermediate 1 unit measures students' level of understanding of internet safety issues and offers online learning and assessment.  Learners will be graded both on their response to the material and also how they use it in their daily computer use.

Social Software Intermediate 2 offers further safeguarding for students by exploring the issues associated with social networking websites. They will carry out analysis of websites and the technology involved.

SQA are also considering introducing a new National Progression Award in Social Software. This would be made up of two Intermediate 1 level Units covering internet safety and online social networking.

If you are interested in offering these qualifications to your learners, please contact SQA:
