From Farm to Fork

The aim of 'Discover Careers…from Farm to Fork' is to encourage young adults of 16-25 years old to see the merits of a career in the Scottish agricultural, food and drink and allied industry sectors and bring into focus the opportunities available. The Royal Highland Show (RHS) 2010 will provide an opportunity to showcase the variety of career paths available to younRoyal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotlandg people whilst also creating a platform to inform the general visiting public.

As well as the RHS showcase, the initiative includes a competition which allows young people to research products and skills within the sector and demonstrate the range of careers available.

As well as a number of other prizes, including £1,000, the chance to be mentored by a key figure from the food and drink industry, free tickets to the Royal Highland Show and work experience in a key company, finalists will win the chance for their work to be displayed at the Royal Highland Show, which takes place at Ingliston, Edinburgh from 24th-27th June.

This Royal Highland Show display will take the form of career pathways which any visitor to the show will be able to follow around the showground, demonstrating the large number of careers paths available within what is a wide sector with a large number of opportunities.

Sir Garth Morrison, President of the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS), said about the initiative: "The need for an intelligent, educated, motivated and knowledgeable workforce is emerging as a pressing national priority.

"As President of the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland, I am extremely keen to attract enthusiastic and talented young people into one of Scotland's most important industries.

"This is a great opportunity not just for those entering the competition, but for the food and drink and allied industries to shout about all of the career opportunities available and attract people who are going to help the industry achieve its ambitions to make Scotland further enhance its agricultural and food and drink industry capabilities."
