The Foundation Certificate in Personal Finance

The Foundation Certificate in Personal Finance is a pilot qualification created in partnership between the Scottish Qualifications Authority www.sqa.org.uk and the Institute of Financial Services Institute of Financial Services.

The aims of the qualification are to:                                                                                                     

  • Raise awareness and understanding of personal finance matters for 14- 19 year olds
  • Equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to be able to cope confidently and effectively with basic financial encounters they are likely to meet
  • Teach students what influences how we spend or save money, and how to become competent at managing their own money

The course is divided into two units:

  • Introduction to Money Unit
  • Money Management

Learning and teaching materials and assessments are provided by IFS and benchmarked against Intermediate 1, with joint certification of achievement provided by SQA and IFS.
