Get Ready For Work: New contracts available in West Edinburgh

Youth and AdviserSkills Development Scotland (SDS) wish to contract for new Get Ready for Work (GRfW) provision based in West Edinburgh.

This provision must be delivered following GRfW Programme Rules. All young people will be referred by Skills Development Scotland Careers Advisers.

SDS are looking for new provision to:

  • Be vocationally focussed, preferably leading to placements and job opportunities in the motor vehicle sector.
  • Have a duration of up to 26 weeks, including work placements.
  • Preferably be roll-on/roll-off rather than block intake; or block intake with in-fill into available spaces.
  • Be located in West Edinburgh close to main bus routes.
  • Start in August 2010, to ensure this opportunity is available for summer 2010 school leavers.

Successful learning providers will have proven links with local employers and be able to develop these links to ensure young people get the opportunity to go out on work placements, to increase their chances of gaining employment. It is anticipated that there will be up to 36 starts over the contract period from August 2010 to March 2011.

If provision is delivered as block intake:

  • one group of 12 will start in mid-late August for 2010 for summer school leavers
  • one group of 12 will start in Oct / Nov 2010 (once the first group is out on placement)
  • one group of 12 will start in Jan / Feb 2011 (once the second group is out on placement) for winter school leavers.

If provision is roll-on / roll-off:

  • the first group of 12 will start in mid-late August
  • there will be a gradual build up of in-training numbers to a maximum of 24
  • approximately half of all trainees will be on placement at any time
  • a maximum of 612 training and 612 allowance weeks will be available to deliver this provision.

Payment structure will be as follows:

  • Vocational Training weeks: £55 per week
  • Training Allowance weeks (payable to trainee): £55 per week
  • Job Outcomes: £350 per outcome
  • Progression from GRfW to mainstream education: £500 per outcome
  • Travel costs as outlined in the GRfW Programme Rules 2010 / 2011
